The New Totalitarians

Kristine Reeves’ HB 2150 bill is an albatross around democracy, especially as it relates to federal candidates since the U.S. Constitution sets the rules that apply to federal candidates.  Her totalitarian bill wants the Washington State Secretary of State and herself, as part of the Washington Legislature, to determine who can run for state and federal offices, thereby, not in accordance with American tradition that has generally made it relatively simple for any adult citizen to run for office.

Generally, it is Marxists, communists and fascists that want to control elections this extensively, since they like more control by the state and less by individuals or the broader populace.  American tradition has gradually conceded that the people should decide for themselves who they want as elected officials, and, not so much, bureaucrats or governments already in control.

Reeves’ bill is a little more obscure than, probably, just another attempt by the so-called “Save Democracy” Democrats to try to keep a presidential candidate off the ballot, since her bill has broader implications for hundreds of candidates every year that run for state or federal office in Washington State.  It’s an attempted “end-around” our election system and, effectively, would tend to perpetuate rule by the party in power or, at least, policies that they like.  Even the late dictator, Joseph Stalin, of the old Soviet Union used an adage, which was, in so many words …control the elections, control the government.  A sentiment that’s at least a chapter in Totalitarianism 101.
