The City of Federal Way has enough on its plate (no pun intended) to do basic small government stuff but the so-called conservative Federal Way City Council decided that they were going into the food and grocery business now, let alone that the venture into the arts and theater business some years ago isn’t exactly attracting wayfarers or anybody else in great numbers from the foothills and manors of sophisticate Washington State.

The Party of Commons is not 100% against the acquisition of the Farmers Market if it is or were to be only a stopgap towards turning it over to a private business owner or group that has an interest in keeping it in Federal Way, but if it becomes a permanent city function, which is more likely than not unless the mayoralty and the overall government changes to one that is watching out for the taxpayers’ pocketbooks, that’s another story altogether. Ferrell and his cowhands apparently want Federal Way City Hall to be a town hall prototype of the present Washington, D.C. morass, in other words, being all things to all people and taking on more than it should. That’s not the purpose of government, nor should it be.

Conservatism 101 is that government should just do the basic things that allows people and businesses to have a functioning and thriving society, but its purpose should not be to become a catch-all business, itself, especially when doing the basics is pretty much all it can do, of late, let alone doing anything shiny or great. We were sold a bill of goods in the Federal Way elections of 2021 when we were told this was going to be a conservative, no-nonsense Council (but turned out to be “soft liberals” or RINOs that to one degree or another, sooner or later, turned against then mayoral candidate, our chairman, Mark, by the way). As Mark and our party has noted not that long ago, Ferrell & Co. has instead managed to lasso a brand new batch of cowhands in exchange for the ones he had before.

P.S. We pretty much changed our tune on this acquisition in a later post, find the embed link, below:
